From Beginner To Professional – The Pro ll Fly Rod + Outfit Suggestion

Buying a fly rod doesn’t have to be confusing or complicated, but we know how overwhelming it can be with the endless varieties of models, sizes, actions, and prices. While TFO offers the 5wt and 8wt NXT Black Label kits designed for beginners, our Pro ll series, paired with the NXT Black Label Reel is another popular choice for beginners, guides, and professionals. Whether as a gift to someone that will be their first fly rod, or as the 2nd, 3rd or 10th addition to their rod arsenal – the Pro ll offers anglers of all skill levels the perfect match at an outstanding value.

With new components and cosmetic upgrades, the Pro II series are medium fast-action rods with a progressive taper that are smooth casting and powerful, yet forgiving. The series features 19 models – from a delicate 2-weight to the popular 10-weight. Every rod features alignment dots color coded by line weight, premium grade cork with burled accents, and oversized stripping guides. New anodized aluminum reel seats with braided carbon fiber inserts make these rods as forgiving on the eyes as they are in the hand.

“I can’t imagine a better buy in a four-piece rod that will deliver such a fast, smooth cast. If you’re looking for an affordable, all-purpose rod, you have found it.” – Lefty Kreh on the Pro ll

Make It A Combo

Need a good reel to pair it with that won’t break the bank? The NXT Black Label series of reels set a new benchmark for performance at an affordable price. Machined, cast aluminum frame, ported to reduce weight and featuring a machined handle drag knob and spool release for increased durability during rigorous use. The NXT Black Label reel utilizes a stacked, alternating disc drag system that delivers plenty of drag pressure, with no startup inertia. Easy LH/RH conversion (no tools needed) and all reels come packaged in a black neoprene pouch. The three reel series is perfect for trout, warm water species and even light saltwater applications.

Line & Leader Suggestion – The possibilities are endless for the types of fishing you can do with the Pro ll series. To get the most out of your rod and reel for the style of fishing you want to be doing, we recommend visiting your local TFO dealer to see what line they’d recommend pairing the Pro ll with for the desired scenarios.

Keep It All Together

Aside from leaving your waders at home, no other feeling is worse than showing up to a fishing spot and realizing that you left your reel back home. Make sure you keep your rod and the appropriate reel together with our Rod & Reel carrier case.
